Quick start

Inspect the local generation capabilities, connect Claude Code, then verify the MCP connection without making a model call.

Inspect capabilities

After installation, use discovery to see which generation operations Clink recognizes. Admission is checked again when you submit work.

Terminal
clink generation-capabilities --json

Connect Claude Code

In the project directory where you use Claude Code, register the server. The local scope keeps this registration private to you in that project. The project argument binds the workspace explicitly.

Terminal · project directory
claude mcp add --scope local --transport stdio clink -- "$(uv tool dir --bin)/clink-mcp-server" --project "$PWD"
claude mcp get clink

Check the connection

  1. Look for Connected in the command output.
  2. Open Claude Code in the same directory. Run /mcp and look for clink.
  3. Ask Claude to call Clink’s version tool and then listmodels, passing an empty object to each. These local checks need no native agent login.

To make a real call, use a compatible, authenticated agent and follow the generation or consultation example. Other MCP clients can use the stdio registration example.
